THEATRE REVIEW: TOY TOWN THEATRE
TWO MEN MAKING EACH OTHER LAUGH IN A COUNTRY PUB.
ANOTHER MAN, NAKED ON A HILLSIDE.
THE FABRIC OF REALITY STARTS TO TEAR.
I AM WIZARD, PEPPER MY NOSTRILS is PIP MANGE-BASKET’S most impactful work until the next one. Performed entirely naked, this deranged monologue by a man afraid of his own power, is a descent into what happens when you don’t wallpaper your house in the colour you were told to mate. A surreal meditation on parental expectations that become instructions to the point you refuse to sell another mortgage and end up naked on a hillside listening to music because you like it.
Immediately following in this double bill pant-shitter is SUIT-BOX where a be-suited MANGE-BASKET sits in a box, forcing himself to sell us a mortgage whilst his audibly expressed inner-voice bombards him with thoughts of escape and despair as the box begins to fill with alcoholic beverages, reducing MANGE-BASKET to a head floating in liquid until a stage-hand fishes him out and we never find out what the two men laughing in the pub had to do with it.
I meet a woman for sex straight after.
