COMEDY/PODCASTS
Neophyte funny man Matt Mongoose’s ground breaking comedy podcast continues to go ‘great guns’ according to him.
“I recently completed a six week beginners course in stand up comedy ending in a live showcase after which three people told me my 5 minute set about funny stuff my girlfriend does was ‘really good.’ I know TV fame and stardom is minutes away and I’m ready. That’s why I’m doing my podcast. It is called ‘Network’ but I’m NOT just using it as a ruse to network with powerful people in the comedy industry – I really want to know stuff. Every week I try to ingratiate myself with a famous and successful comedian by asking a series of irritating questions, like ‘what five memories of your life would you wish to guard against dementia?’ or ‘when was the first time you laughed?’ 'It’s mostly been great although one very famous act took the wrong attitude. When I asked him ‘How do you get good at comedy?’ he said ‘Go onstage and perform hundreds, possibly thousands of times. Put yourself out there, fail, try again. Learn how to do it.’ I gave him the opportunity for a full minute to tell me what I REALLY needed to do. He chose silence so I showed him the video of my showcase set throughout which people clearly laughed and asked if I could be his support act on tour. He said no which to me was incredibly disrespectful to my talent.
Anyway, fuck him, I’ve got a big name producer on this week. I’m going to demand he gives me my own TV show. So check ‘Network’ out wherever you get your podcasts. Like it, subscribe to it, laugh along loudly to it on the tube or the bus, write me a positive comment in the feedback section, tell everyone you know about it, then tell everyone you don’t know. Get a sandwich board. Pin this photo of my face to it and get marching up and down your high street shouting ‘NETWORK!’ and ‘MATT MONGOOSE’ until you have to sit down and have a drink. Then carry on.”
